George Russell finished sixth in the Sprint in Brazil. The Mercedes F1 resident finished alone, far behind the Ferraris and clearly ahead of his pursuers, and he explains that this is exactly the scenario that he and his team expected.
“This is exactly what we expected. We are isolated between the top 5 and the other group. This is the situation we are in at the moment” said the British pilot.
Asked about the surprise of seeing an Alpine and an RB F1 clinging to him at the start of the race, Russell assures us that his car was better: “Not at the start, these cars are in the peloton but they attacked at the start to stay in the DRS zone.”
“I finished six seconds behind Carlos [Sainz] and six seconds ahead [Pierre] Gasly is exactly what we expected. We have to continue to improve, but we won't have a car for pole by qualifying.”
