Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko says Sergio Perez will not be ousted by the end of the 2024 season.
"You'll see me in Vegas, you'll see me next year and then it's not me who cares," launched Perez yesterday in the Sao Paulo paddock.
But while shutting down rumors that Brazil could be the Mexican's final race as Max Verstappen's teammate, Marko admits Perez may never actually start his signed 2025 contract.
“We are currently evaluating everything but decisions will only be made after Abu Dhabi.”
Marko suggests that Perez's current form will not be enough to guarantee his seat.
“The fall in the constructors' championship to third place, the 200 points behind Max Verstappen, all that says a lot.”
“The constructors' title is completely unrealistic now. At the moment, Ferrari has the fastest car and two strong drivers.”
Marko implied that Perez had become a financial burden for Red Bull.
“The difference between first and third place is 17 million euros. This is a serious financial blow, especially for the employees, because their bonus is based on the constructors' championship.”
Perez has complained in the last two races that his Red Bull was no match for Verstappen's, adding that he struggled to slow the car down the straight.
“We looked into everything because he said there were problems with the brakes and the chassis. I think he's even going to get a new chassis now to calm him down.”
Liam Lawson has been clearly placed as the favorite to take his place at Red Bull Racing for 2025.
If Pérez is sidelined, Isack Hadjar is in the running for a seat at RB F1 next year.
“The test in Abu Dhabi will be crucial for his (Hajar) future. There will also be a number of drivers who could be considered for next year.”
When asked if Hadjar was ready for Formula 1, Marko replied: “Yes, absolutely. He was faster than Franco Colapinto in all junior categories.”
