Formula 1 | Gasly: Alpine did ‘a pretty decent job’ in Qualifying Sprint

Alpine qualified one of its cars in SQ2 in Austin for the Sprint, thanks to Pierre Gasly. With 13th place, he will be on the seventh row at the start of the Sprint tomorrow to start the second day of the United States Grand Prix.

“We did a pretty decent job today preparing for the Austin Sprint weekend.” said Gasly, who was happy to have upgrades to his car for the race.

“This is the first time we have used our new package with developments on the single-seater. At this stage it is important that we continue to understand the car, collect valuable data and really push the development.”

“This will also benefit us for next season. It will be a challenge to get the points from the heart of the peloton, but we will always do our best as you never know what can happen in the race.”

Esteban Ocon failed to make it through SQ1 despite not having his teammate’s advanced package, but he is confident of being able to progress during the weekend: “We did some solid work this morning in Free Practice 1 to prepare for Sprint Qualifying.”

“We were pretty close to SQ2, but we still lack a bit of pace. There are often opportunities in Sprint races, so we will do everything we can to be able to take advantage of them.”

“We will continue to do our best and we hope to draw conclusions for the team on how to further improve the car and extract more performance from the hardware currently at our disposal.”
