Is he the next American driver in ?

As Formula 1 sets up its marquee in Texas this weekend, a local boy performed an demonstration in his hometown of Houston: will he be Logan Sargeant’s successor?

After 18 months of Grand Prix and only one small point obtained (on the green carpet) in Austin last year, Sargeant was unceremoniously sacked by Williams even before his home race to make way for Franco Colapinto, who immediately makes a strong impression.

The only American driver to have had a chance in F1 since Alex Rossi at the back of the grid with Manor in 2015, Sargeant finds himself at a crossroads and will do a test in IndyCar next month without certainty of being able to bounce back.

Hope in training

IndyCar star Colton Herta having given up on his Formula 1 dreams in the context that we know at Andretti Global, it is difficult to identify the next candidate for the top of motor racing in a country where the sport is nevertheless experiencing a huge resurgence in popularity.

It could be the hopeful Jak Crawford (19 years old), reserve for Aston Martin F1 after having been trained by the Red Bull Junior Team in F2 and F3. Recently confirmed within the French DAMS team for a third season in Formula 2 in 2025, he is currently fifth in the provisional championship standings with one victory and four podiums.

Promotional operation

This week, Crawford was on a promotional operation for Aramco in Houston (photo above) during a demonstration at the wheel of an Aston Martin AMR22 and he was able to measure the evolution of its notoriety in the United States.

“A few years ago, no one was interested in F1 here, testifies Jak. Now it’s cool to see people coming to this type of event and they’re new fans. People watch Grands Prix on television, which wasn’t possible until not so long ago. Even F2 races are broadcast.”

Aston Martin F1 team principal Mike Krack also confirmed that Crawford will take part in post-season private testing in Abu Dhabi on the AMR24 in December as a development driver.
