Formula 1 | Haas F1: Toyota will ‘coexist’ with Ferrari and Dallara

Haas F1 has signed a new technical partnership with Toyota, in addition to those existing with Ferrari and Dallara. Ayao Komatsu, the team principal, took stock of Toyota’s role vis-à-vis that of the Scuderia, which will remain Haas’ engine supplier in the long term.

“We will continue to use the Maranello wind tunnel, and as far as manufacturing our own gearbox is concerned, that is not what we are considering” Komatsu said.

“As long as the regulations allow it, we will buy Ferrari’s gearbox. Our partnership with Toyota is not intended to replace our partnership with Ferrari. Toyota can help us in some areas, but not in others.”

Chassis manufacturing will always remain the responsibility of Dallara, although Toyota will also have manufacturing tasks to fulfill: “Again, Dallara is our important partner, they’ve been with us since day one, they’ve been building our chassis since day one.”

“So this is another key and important relationship, and we will discuss in due course what parameters we will continue to work with Dallara and what parameters we will work with Toyota. All of that will co-exist, it’s not a matter of not replace one with the other.”

“Of course we keep the design office in Maranello, because again nothing changes in the fact that we buy the gearbox and the suspension from Ferrari, so to that extent it makes sense to have our design office in Maranello.

“And we continue to use the Ferrari wind tunnel, so our aerodynamicists will continue to be based there. But, for example, we will start designing other carbon composite parts ourselves and doing tests and simulations, in other areas, to contribute to the performance of the car.”

“We will decide in the future exactly where we will host them, in Maranello or in the UK. But again I want to emphasize that this is not about replacing what we have with Ferrari .”
