Formula 1 | Rosberg: Aston Martin must not be ‘the PSG’ of F1

Nico Rosberg has warned Aston Martin F1 that recruiting stars may not be enough to win in Formula 1. The 2016 world champion expresses his fears about recruiting people for their name and not their talent.

“Look at PSG, in football” Rosberg said. “They had Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappé, all three at the same time. Three of the best football players of all time, and everyone else was also very good, but they never won the Champions League.”

“Because, of course, it’s great to bring in the greatest geniuses and the best managers. But they still need to integrate, to work together optimally, because the quality of the team depends on the collaboration of all.”

Rosberg reminds that Newey cannot be seen as a miracle solution in the team: “Adrian Newey alone will not be able to make this car a world championship car. He needs the rest of the team.”

“Of course he can give them good direction, he can give them very good advice, but he still needs the team to excel with him. That remains to be seen. It will definitely be a challenge for them to integrate and to make this team a family that all pulls in the same direction.”
