A Red Bull F1 in the footsteps of the Vikings, the astonishing video of Coulthard in Scandinavia

It was in Scandinavia that David Coulthard accepted an invitation from Red Bull Racing, aiming to join the Austrian single-seater, in full action, in the middle of the Swedish and Danish landscapes, between Stockholm and Copenhagen. For the occasion, a staging was designed to make the sequence more lively, with a rather unusual homage to the past.

F1 still without Scandinavian circuit

David Coulthard, former F1 driver and Red Bull ambassador, said: “ There is a rich Formula 1 history in Scandinavia, so it felt like the days when the European element of the World Championships was a much bigger part of F1. Some of the iconic cars and names from my childhood and before were competing in that part of the world at the time, so it was fantastic to have the opportunity to film this project there. Recognize the past while building on the future. Looking back on some of the things we’ve done, whether it was driving to Petra or being on top of Burj Al Arab, we took the car out to people. So filming this project in Scandinavia with the huge motorsport fanbase they have, with many successful drivers as well, not only in single seaters but also in rallying, was great. »

A road trip highlighting a sad reality, that of the total absence of F1 Grand Prix in Scandinavia. Despite the presence of a significant fan base, notably supporting Kevin Magnussen, who should no longer be on the starting grid next season. Besides the Dane, in the past, we were also able to observe his father, Jan, in the premier category, as well as Marcus Ericsson, a Sauber driver before succeeding in the USA, in the Indycar championship.

Here is the video in question, posted by Red Bull Racing.

F1 has seen a few drivers from the Nordic countries, notably Denmark and Sweden. Although these countries are not among the most represented in the history of F1, they have nevertheless produced talented drivers who have left their mark on the sport. Concerning Norway, it was more in the WRC World Rally Championship that it benefited from representatives including a certain Petter Solberg.

Danish Drivers

Denmark has seen the emergence of several drivers in Formula 1, some of whom have managed to make a name for themselves on the international scene.

Tom Belsø

Tom Belsø is often considered the first Danish driver in F1. He competed in a few Grands Prix in the 1970s, but his F1 career was relatively short. Despite this, he paved the way for other Danish drivers.

Jan Magnussen

Jan Magnussen, father of Kevin Magnussen, was a notable driver in the 1990s. He raced for several teams, including McLaren and Stewart, and scored points during his appearances. His career was marked by strong performances, although he did not achieve a Grand Prix victory.

Kevin Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen, son of Jan, made his F1 debut in 2014 with McLaren. He quickly gained attention by finishing on the podium in his first race. Magnussen later raced for several teams, including Renault and Haas, and is known for his aggressive driving style and ability to score points regularly.

Swedish Drivers

Sweden has a richer history in Formula 1, with several drivers achieving success.

Ronnie Peterson

Ronnie Peterson is arguably the most iconic Swedish driver in F1 history. Nicknamed “SuperSwede”, he raced in the 1970s and won several races. Peterson was known for his speed in qualifying and exceptional talent, but he tragically lost his life in an accident at the 1978 Italian Grand Prix.

Stefan Johansson

Stefan Johansson has also been a notable Swedish driver, having raced in the 1980s and 1990s. Although he did not win a Grand Prix, he had a respectable career, competing in over 100 races and scoring points with several teams.

Marcus Ericsson

Most recently, Marcus Ericsson represented Sweden in F1 between 2014 and 2018. Although he did not enjoy major success in terms of wins, he showed his determination and ability to fight through the pack. After his career in F1, he continued his career in IndyCar, where he won the Indianapolis 500 in 2022.
