Aurélien Tchouaméni will be the new captain of the Blues against Israel

In a brief press release published this Wednesday, Aurélien Tchouaméni was promoted captain of the team by Didier Deschamps to face Israel on Thursday in Budapest.

Didier Deschamps has named a new captain in the absence of Kylian Mbappé. Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni will lead the Blues this Thursday evening in Budapest against Israel. The French team made this known through a brief press release this Wednesday.

“Aurélien Tchouaméni, captain tomorrow against Israel, will accompany Didier Deschamps at a press conference this afternoon”announced the French team, without further details. Tchouaméni, 24, has 36 caps with the Blues. He notably started at the 2022 World Cup, where France failed in the final against Argentina (3-3, 4-2 on penalties).

Tchouaméni preferred in Maignan or Koundé

He is thus preferred to AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan (29 years old, 24 caps), holder in the cages of the Blues since the retirement of the former captain, Hugo Lloris, in January 2023. A time mentioned, the defender of FC Barcelona Jules Koundé (25 years old, 36 caps) will not be given the armband either.

Deschamps and Tchouaméni should discuss the subject at a press conference this afternoon (4:45 p.m.). The Blues coach could choose another player as captain for the second match of this break, against Belgium on Monday October 14, still within the framework of the Nations League. Last September, in the absence of Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann, who has since retired internationally, Deschamps entrusted the armband to N’Golo Kanté. The midfielder, world champion in 2018, however withdrew from this truce.
