Clermont narrowly overthrows at the end of a tense end to the match

In a match without great flights and undecided until the end, Clermont escaped at home at the last minute in pouring rain against (19-18) Sunday evening, at the end of the 5th day.

Clermont was (very) hot but finally came out on top against Toulon (19-18) on Sunday evening at the end of the 5th day of Top 14. Despite Toulon’s multiple attempts at the end of the match and the anger of Pierre Mignoni against a (more than) contentious arbitration decision, which ultimately condemned the Varois to defeat in Auvergne, the Jaunards gleaned significant success for the rest of the season.

In front almost the entire match, apart from during the last three minutes, the Toulonnais relied on the perfect boot of their scrum half Baptiste Serin who signed a flawless performance in this meeting (18 points). For his part, the Argentinian opener of ASM Benjamin Urdapilleta also set the target (14 points) in this scoring duel. His compatriot Bautista Delguy distinguished himself by scoring the only try of this meeting (64th) which was disjointed and undecided until the end.

An action which initiated the return of Christophe Urios’ men in the last quarter of an hour, all punctuated by the penalty for the victory of Urdapilleta who will hang up his crampons at the end of the season. Thanks to this Michelin success in the pouring rain, Clermont climbs to sixth place and is back in the top 5. For their part, the retain their fourth place in the ranking, only three points from the lead, and leave Auvergne with the defensive bonus point.
