Formula 1 | Norris: 52 points to make up is a lot and a little at the same time

Lando Norris has warned McLaren F1 against slacking off despite their current form against Red Bull.

Norris easily won the F1 Singapore Grand Prix after qualifying on pole position, his third race victory of the year.

He reduced the deficit to 52 points behind Max Verstappen, who leads the drivers’ championship but is currently no match for Norris’ pace.

“Only 52 points? Or even 52 points? It’s a lot and not a lot at the same time. There are two ways to look at it. Things are progressing but it’s still a lot of points to make up, especially when Max finishes second. That Don’t go down too fast.”

“I feel like I’ve performed well over the last few months. Different circumstances didn’t allow me to achieve results like Singapore. But I feel like I performed at this level in over the last two, three, four race weekends.”

“I wish I could be closer in the championship. We took things head on, we are moving forward. I was the fastest all weekend in Singapore and I dominated the race, that’s great. Good. It’s a good motivation for the team.”

“I’m happy but we have to keep working hard because I’m sure Red Bull will catch up. I want my races to be nice and easy! This is the only option for me to close the gap.”

McLaren has comfortably overtaken Red Bull for the lead in the constructors’ championship. But everything will depend on the developments that the teams bring to Austin.

“We’re doing well at the moment. I want to keep going! Screw the break, let’s go straight to Austin. The team is doing an incredible job but we’re competing against Red Bull. They’re going to react. People are taking too much of them quickly for fools.”

“When you’re against Red Bull, you’re against Max. They’ve dominated the sport for several years. It’s tough competition. When you have Max and Red Bull behind you, you push! They will do everything they can. So there must be no relaxation on our part.”
