Oscar Piastri praised by a big name in F1

Bernie Ecclestone believes that Oscar Piastri’s first world title in Formula 1 will not be long in coming if McLaren stays the course given the potential of the young Australian.

Oscar Piastri is certainly the driver who has progressed the most during this year 2024, truly growing at the rate where the performance of his McLaren is improving, to surprise the paddock from race to race.

During his second season in the sport, he established himself as a formidable garage neighbor for Lando Norris, to the point of forcing the Woking team to sacrifice points on numerous occasions in their quest for challenger Max Verstappen, preferring do not introduce a first and second driver policy too early in the season. A situation which was often chaotic on the British team’s pit wall.

Magic plates

The Australian did not fail to impress great observers of the discipline, such as Bernie Ecclestone (93 years old). The man nicknamed the Great Money Maker of Formula 1 recently made glowing remarks about Piastri, whom he considers to be a future great.

“He’s a magical guy, enthuses Mister E.
He will, for sure, be a world champion. In the next two years. If the car continues to perform as it does now, this is what will happen. It stands out from all the others. »

A title that appears unrealistic to play for this year, with Piastri currently trailing championship leader Max Verstappen by 94 points. Especially since his teammate is only 52 lengths behind him.

Ecclestone bets on the outcome of the 2024 season

Regarding his predictions for this season, Ecclestone is less rash, and is content to predict a victory for the forces which already occupy the first position of the two F1 championships.

“Verstappen already has some lead, so he just has to have a bit of luck, continues Ecclestone. But I think Max, in general, should be able to be champion. »

“McLaren will win the constructors’ championship. The team has two very confident drivers and a very good car. Norris, so far, has made a few mistakes that he knows he made and wishes he hadn’t made. But I think he’s sorted things out pretty well now.” concludes the Briton.
