Mercedes-AMG One sets new Nürburgring record, beating its own time

This is a record that will no doubt stand for some time. The Mercedes-AMG One, a hypercar equipped with a Formula 1 engine, has once again broken the record for the fastest production car on the famous Nürburgring circuit. Two years after having already made history with this same model, the brand with the star returned to the track to beat its own time.

Driven by DTM driver and AMG ambassador Maro Engel, the Mercedes-AMG One completed a lap in 6 minutes and 29.090 seconds, more than 6 seconds better than its previous record of 6 minutes 35.183 seconds. This historic lap took place in September, under perfect conditions with an ideal ambient temperature of 15°C, unlike two years previously when certain portions of the track were still wet.

“We had held the record for road vehicles for almost two years.” explains Michael Scheibe, boss of Mercedes-AMG. “But at AMG, we always want to push the limits of what is possible as much as possible, or even push them a little further. That is why we have once again demonstrated what is possible with the unique AMG ONE. The entire team was rewarded for their efforts and commitment. I am proud of this accomplished teamwork and this fantastic record.”

Engel improves his own record by almost 6 seconds

“Two years ago the conditions were not ideal and some sections of the track were still a little wet. We knew we could do more, and we wanted to show it.” assures Marco Engel, the pilot. “Today we were able to demonstrate the maximum potential of the AMG ONE. A big thank you to the entire Affalterbach team for the trust they have placed in me. It was a great pleasure and an honor to be able to achieve this record lap with such a unique car.”

With a 1.6-liter turbo V6 engine derived from and accompanied by two electric motors, the Mercedes-AMG One develops an impressive total of 1,048 horsepower. It also benefits from cutting-edge technologies, such as an active aerodynamic system, pushrod suspension and engine management similar to that of F1 cars.
