Iga Swiatek announces separation from her coach Tomasz Wiktorowski after 3 years of collaboration

It’s a rather unexpected end to a cycle. After being trained for three years by her compatriot Tomasz Wiktorowski, Iga Swiatek will no longer be in the future. The world number 1 announced the news on her Instagram account in a long message of thanks on Friday, referring to a decision taken together. Under her leadership, the Pole established herself as the boss of the WTA circuit, even if she is now increasingly challenged by Aryna Sabalenka.

After three years together and having accomplished the greatest things of my career, my coach Tomasz Wiktorowski and I decided to take different paths. I want to start by thanking him greatly, I enjoyed our work together. (…) Our main objective was to reach the world number 1 position and he was the first to say so. We aimed very high with the clear goal of winning every tournament we entered. Together, we have won numerous tournaments including four Grand Slams.“, a souligné Swiatek.

I am in full discussions with foreign coaches

The Pole has won Roland-Garros three times (2022, 2023 and 2024) and the US Open during her collaboration with Wiktorowski, i.e. four of her five Majors – she had already won Roland-Garros in 2019. She also highlighted the technical and tactical contribution of his coach over the last three years, with a decidedly more aggressive orientation to his tennis which allowed him to make significant progress on hard courts in particular.

I know you would like to rest after three years of hard work traveling a lot and spend some well-deserved time with your loved ones. I hope you get what you need“, she added, addressing Wiktorowski directly in her message. Wear and tear and a certain weariness therefore explain this separation.

For the rest, Swiatek has not made anything official but has given a clue on the profile sought to support him in his new challenges. “Due to this significant change in my team, I am giving myself a few weeks to start working with a new coach. I am in full discussions with foreign coaches, because I am ready to take the next step in my career“, she concluded.
