WEC. Jules Gounon, more than a replacement driver

Does the situation portend something better for Jules Gounon? Possible. The Frenchman has shown all his abilities at Alpine this season by participating in four world championship races: in Imola, Spa, Fuji and now Bahrain.

The announcement of its participation in the WEC final was made this Friday, October 4. He will replace Nicolas Lapierre, who has hung up his helmet. This once again proves the team’s confidence in its driver, who performed wonders in Japan a few weeks ago. He also finished on the podium in the Japanese round.

With the departure of Nicolas Lapierre for a position as sports director at Alpine, a place becomes available within the line-up of the French team. Logically, the one who races with an Andorran license should be promoted as an indisputable starter, unless his other program with Mercedes prevents him from being present at 100%.

Quid de Mick Schumacher ?

The decision has not yet been made internally, Philippe Sinault being in discussions with his men. But with the departure of Nicolas Lapierre, it seems logical that Jules Gounon takes his place. Especially since he has the trust of his superiors and has shown his abilities this season.

Another Alpine member is doubtful for next year. Mick Schumacher still wants Formula 1, having driven two seasons for Haas. Philippe Sinault indicated that he was not sure if he would still see the German in blue next year, but that he was doing everything possible to keep him.
