– The 2026 technical regulations are already changing, the aerodynamics concerned

Not yet launched, the new technical and sporting regulations expected for 2026 are already changing. As the season takes an unusual 4-week break, the Commission met for the fourth time this year. Chaired by Nikolas Tombazis, director of single-seater series at the FIA, and Stefano Domenicali, president and general manager of Formula 1, this meeting allowed several points to be discussed and in particular some concerns raised by the teams recently after the publication of the regulation 2026.

Last June, when it was made public, the drivers and teams were quickly divided on the subject. Since then, the situation has changed somewhat with in-depth work carried out by the FIA Technical Advisory Committee, made official on the sidelines of the F1 Commission in Faenza this week. Thus, the “aerodynamic performance” of the new generation of cars was increased after exchanges.

« Following discussions at recent Technical Advisory Committee meetings, and ongoing discussions with Formula 1 teams, a number of amendments to the 2026 technical regulations in the areas of performance, aerodynamics and safety have been incorporated into the latest iteration of this regulationwe can read in the official report.

These involve an increase in the planned aerodynamic performance of the single-seaters following close collaboration between the teams and the FIA over recent months.. »

The financial regulations also revised

In addition, discussions between the motorsport watchdog and the teams led to an agreement on the pre-season testing schedule, set at 9 days of testing for the teams before kick-off.

« The 2026 sporting regulations have undergone a significant overhaul, aiming to simplify their structure. The 2026 pre-season testing schedule will include three three-day test sessions, given the challenges brought by the new engine regulations. »

It wasn’t all about performance during this meeting at the Racing Bulls premises. The FIA took the opportunity to provide some financial details regarding this new era.

« The 2026 financial regulation will be an evolution of the current frameworkwe indicate. The aim of the 2026 regulations is to propose a competitive balance between sporting fairness and financial viability. »

These three updates will be presented at the next World Motor Sport Council on Thursday October 17.
