Eddie Jordan is convinced that Alpine F1 will turn around in the coming months, and that the team will be on the podium in two or three years maximum. The former team principal was promised this by Flavio Briatore, and he believes it will be respected.
“There is no doubt about Alpine” Jordan said on the Formula For Success podcast. “I could be in a meeting with one of my main sponsors, or my bank manager or whoever, and Flavio would burst in.”
“It was his way of being, but it was mutual, I did the same thing, and it doesn’t happen anymore, but Flavio was a very special man in the days when I was in Formula 1. I I hated him for some things and loved him for others.”
“But you know what he will do, and he gave me his word: ‘I promise you, Eddie, that by 2026 or 2027, Alpine will be on the podium. I’m not going to stand up and say that I I don’t agree, because I actually agree. He has a magic wand that allows him to make things happen.”
Jordan is convinced that the Italian can put a virtuous circle back in place: “Flavio wants to build the best car possible, we’ve said that before, and the best driver will naturally be attracted to that car – that’s his way of doing things.”
That’s his philosophy. Other people go the other way. Take the best driver, let’s see how we can make it work, like it does for Ferrari – take Lewis Hamilton.”
