Formula 1 | Verstappen praises Newey for his honesty through the English press

Max Verstappen has 100% backed Adrian Newey’s views on British media bias in Formula 1.

Although Newey signed with Aston Martin F1 for 2025 and beyond, sparking rumors that Verstappen could soon follow him, he defended the three-time world champion for the way he is often portrayed in the British press.

"There’s a kind of demonization that they both suffered at times, which is very unfair," Newey said, referring to Dutchman and German Sebastian Vettel.

He pointed to the “British media” in general, but also the cover “quite nationalist” from the British channel Sky, whose coverage of F1 is also taken up by other countries.

“Absolutely. I agree 100%,” declared the three-time world champion.

“In terms of discussions, you always defend your compatriot instead of the other driver in a duel where it’s quite 50 – 50, where there can be a debate.

“But you also try to stay as neutral as possible and some countries overdo it, I think.”

“At the end of the day, they can say and shout whatever they want. It doesn’t matter to me.”

He praised Newey for his “honesty”.

“He’s British after all.”

But the bias is also visible in other countries. Tom Coronel, a former driver and consultant for F1 in the Netherlands, was criticized for being too “pro Max”.

“People sometimes tell me to take off my orange glasses, but I don’t necessarily wear orange glasses. I just like his offensive style. That’s why I’ve always been a fan of Max.”

“He never bores us. There’s always something going on around him. There’s fire in this man, whether he crashes or wins.”
