Practice: record for Bastianini, Quartararo qualified

Morbidelli at ease

The premier category drivers returned to the magnificent Mandalika circuit this Friday afternoon to compete in Practice for the Pertamina Indonesia Grand Prix. At the end of this Q2-style session, Enea Bastianini (Ducati Lenovo Team) is at the top of the hierarchy thanks to a new track record set in 1’29.630. Winner on Sunday at Misano, the Italian is ahead of Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac Racing) by four hundredths as well as Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing), which concludes an almost perfect Friday in Lombok.

Quartararo still in Q2

Long at the back of the standings, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) switched to a new tire at the end of the session to take fourth place ahead of his colleague from the VR46 Academy, Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team). Already in Q2 during the last two GPs at Misano, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) makes it three with the sixth fastest time in Practice and proves that the Yamaha can shine even on a track where it has not achieved of Test. The Frenchman is ahead Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™), who delighted us with a rescue of which only he has the secret in this session.

Better for Zarco and Honda

Having made a mistake this afternoon, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) ranked eighth and ninth respectively in the session and validated their ticket for Q2. Finally, Maverick Viñales (Aprilia Racing) completes the top 10 just ahead John Zarco (LCR Honda Castrol), who finished in a frustrating 11th place despite an excellent start to the weekend. Given his performances today, the Cannes driver has very good reasons to believe he will progress to Q2 tomorrow. On the factory Honda, Lucas Marina (Repsol Honda Team) achieved a nice 12th time. We will also note the falls of Brad binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) and Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia Racing), trapped twice in turn 16.

MotoGP™ FP2 at Mandalika will take place on Saturday at 4:10 a.m.
