Formula 1 | Verstappen also tackles the FIA for the fine imposed on Sainz

Max Verstappen has added insult to injury to the FIA and defended Carlos Sainz, after the Spaniard was fined “super stupid” for crossing the circuit during qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix.

Sainz was fined €25,000 for crossing the circuit after his crash in the opening minutes of Q3, with half of the fine suspended for the rest of the season.

The Ferrari driver crashed on the final corner and was found by the FIA to be in breach of Article 26.7 b) of the sporting regulations which states that he is not allowed to walk on the track without permission.

Not only was Verstappen frustrated by his own penalty for swearing, he also strongly disagreed with the one handed to Sainz.

“Carlos got fined for crossing the track, didn’t he?”

“I mean, what are we talking about? It’s a red flag. You know, cars come in and pit. I think it was pretty safe and he knows what he’s doing.”

Insisting on the fact “that no pilot is stupid”he added: “Again, as I saw it, it was super stupid to fine him.”
