Formula 1 | Perez wants changes at Red Bull after Singapore ‘nightmare’

Sergio Perez was frustrated with his Red Bull’s performance after finishing 10th in the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Mexican could only qualify 13th on the grid after being knocked out of Q2 on Saturday and struggled to make progress in the Grand Prix on Sunday.

A strong start propelled Perez into the top 10, but he had to settle for just one point for his efforts after being unable to progress further through the field.

“Unfortunately, we just couldn’t maximise the result. It was a shame.”

“Now it’s time to look ahead to the next races of the season because as I said, it’s been a real nightmare, a disaster in terms of balance. I’ve struggled a lot.”

“Given how difficult it is to overtake, we should really be a bit further up front. It was really difficult to be stuck behind Nico Hulkenberg – it was a total disaster to be behind for the whole race. It was quite painful.”

“It was a real shame, after overtaking three cars at the start the race became complicated.”

“It was frustrating and I think we missed the strategy a bit. I struggled a lot with the bounce of the car and the balance, it wasn’t settling, I had a real problem with that.”

“It’s a shame we qualified so far down and we know what we did wrong – so we need to get back to Austin because the pace should be much better on a standard circuit.”

Perez felt Red Bull left him on track too long before bringing him into the pits in the hope of capitalising on a possible safety car that never came.

“Looking back, we probably over-drove in the first stint, unfortunately, and that meant we lost places.”

And Perez thinks Red Bull needs a “good upgrade” to compete with McLaren and Ferrari after losing ground in both world championships.

“I think we need a good upgrade, it comes in Austin. The tracks coming up should be better for us, so hopefully we can have a better package to counter Ferrari and get back to McLaren.”
