Helmut Marko, emblematic advisor to Red Bull, did not mince his words when comparing Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. According to him, even with an inferior car, Verstappen remains faster than his British rival. As Hamilton begins a new chapter in his career with Ferrari, Marko was keen to recall the superiority of his protégé, the reigning four-time world champion.
Verstappen faster no matter what?
“Max is not only the fastest, but also the best in Formula 1 in terms of overall package,” he told the Motorsport-Total media relayed by F1 Only. Marko believes that Verstappen is able to extract “0.1 to 0.2 extra seconds per lap” from his car, a unique quality according to him. “Lewis Hamilton still has the speed, but over a full season? I doubt it,” he added. Despite Hamilton's arrival at Ferrari, renowned for its competitive single-seaters, and the possibility of a less dominant Red Bull, the Austrian does not change his mind: Verstappen would remain at the top. And Marko did not hesitate to warn the Briton: “He must be careful not to fall back into a negative spiral, as was the case at Mercedes.”
Meanwhile, Hamilton made his debut in the red colors of Ferrari during testing at Fiorano. In a foggy atmosphere, he received a warm welcome from the Tifosi, who gathered en masse to catch a glimpse of the seven-time world champion.
