Flavio Briatore, executive advisor of Alpine, was impressed by the performance of young Argentine driver Franco Colapinto during the 2024 season. Despite an end to the season marked by accidents in São Paulo and Las Vegas, Colapinto shone at the wheel of the modest Williams, which led Briatore to campaign for his integration into Alpine.
Colapinto has signed a multi-year contract with the French team, where he will occupy the role of test and reserve driver, just like at Williams. However, this signing clearly shows Alpine’s ambitions to see him racing in the near future. With Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan as starting drivers for 2025, the presence of Colapinto puts additional pressure on Doohan, whose future could be compromised.
Briatore loue le talent de Colapinto
Briatore made no secret of his enthusiasm: Franco is one of the best young talents in motorsport today. “It is clear that Franco is one of the best young talents in motorsport today. It’s fair to say that his appearance on the Formula 1 grid last year surprised many, myself included, and his performance was very impressive for a rookie driver. We have an eye on our future and his signing means that we have a large number of young drivers that we can count on and work with to develop the team for future success,” Briatore expressed in comments relayed by F1Only.
