Speculation surrounding Franco Colapinto’s future in Formula 1 continues to intensify. According to the Argentinian magazine Olé, the 21-year-old driver could soon land a starting position with Alpine. The Race website also confirms that Colapinto would be “on the verge” to join the French team.
Their article states “It is unclear whether he will join the team permanently or with arrangements for a recall from Williams, as a “loan” had been part of early discussions, but Colapinto will not immediately take a racing seat Alpine.”
The Argentinian distinguished himself at the end of the 2024 season by replacing Logan Sargeant at Williams, his notable performances attracted the interest of several teams, including Red Bull and Alpine. However, a series of accidents at the end of the season somewhat reduced the interest of these teams. Red Bull ultimately opted for Liam Lawson as Sergio Perez’s replacement, while Isack Hadjar was placed at Racing Bulls.
At Alpine, the arrival of Franco Colapinto could complicate the situation for Jack Doohan, current teammate of Pierre Gasly. Doohan, who made his debut at the end of last season in Abu Dhabi, has a contract for the coming season, but a contract which could ultimately be easily canceled by his current employer.

For his part, Flavio Briatore, executive advisor of Alpine F1, casts doubt and remains evasive on the subject.
“The only thing certain is death”, Briatore said. “We start the year with Pierre and Jack, I guarantee it. Afterwards, we will see during the season. I have to help the team get to a situation where they can get results.”
“The pilot is the one who must complete the work of the almost thousand people behind him. Everyone works for just two people. And if there is a pilot who does not progress, who does not bring results, he will then be replaced”, concluded the Italian.
