Although its name might lead the uninitiated to believe that it takes place in Monaco, the Monte-Carlo Rally actually only sets off from the Principality before traveling the roads of the south of . For its 93rd edition, it is no exception to the rule.

The first laps of the ten Rally1s entered will be seen near , for a 3.28 km shakedown scheduled for Wednesday January 22 in the hometown of Sébastien Ogier, record holder for victories on this rally with Sébastien Loeb. An appetizer before the serious things begin on Thursday and the first three stages contested at night.

27km for the longest special, Saturday promises to be decisive

Things will resume at 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning to launch the second stage consisting of two loops of three special stages for 107 km to be run over the day between Saint-Maurice and Quellenet. But the main course will arrive on Saturday with the colossal third stage, made up of the longest special of the event. The 27 km linking La Motte-Chalancon to Saint-Nazaire-le-Désert will be covered twice during the day during SS10 and 13.

Following this demanding day, where the gaps should be made, there will remain three small specials on Sunday. The 4th stage, although shorter, will however be very important thanks to the scale of the Super Sunday (5 to 1 point for the five fastest crews on the Sunday stage) and the Power Stage (5 to 1 point also).

This will connect La Bollène-Vésubie to Peïra-Cava, a small village of 100 inhabitants perched on the heights of the Alpes-Maritimes. A place which will perhaps crown Sébastien Ogier winner for the ninth time of Monte-Carlo, thus overtaking Sébastien Loeb on the list of winners. But Thierry Neuville, Kalle Rovanperä and others intend to spoil the party at home.
