Formula 1 has agreed a multi-year extension deal with the Belgian Grand Prix, which will see the race take place at the iconic Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for four of the next six years.
It is therefore the entry into force of a system of alternation between races which is done with this announcement from the FOM, without specifying which Spa circuit will alternate with. We already know that Zandvoort in the Netherlands has said stop to F1 for the future.
This extension, which includes the Grands Prix of the 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031 seasons, follows significant investments at the circuit in recent years, including the addition of two new grandstands – increasing capacity by 10,000 – and enhancing off-track entertainment and the fan experience. Last year, the Belgian Grand Prix welcomed 380,000 fans throughout the race weekend.
This season, the Belgian Grand Prix takes place from July 25-27 and will see the return of the F1 sprint to the track, providing fans with even more racing entertainment over the three days.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, said:
“The Belgian Grand Prix was one of the races that made up our first Championship in 1950, so as we enter our 75th anniversary it is only fitting that we can share the news of this important expansion. Spa-Francorchamps is rightly hailed by drivers and fans as one of the best circuits in the world and has hosted some incredible moments during its many seasons in Formula 1. In recent years it has been the subject of important works to improve the facilities and the overall fan experience, and I would like to pay tribute to the promoter and the Walloon government for their dedication and passionate support for Formula 1 in Belgium. »
Pierre-Yves Jeholet, Vice-President of the Walloon government and Minister of the Economy, added:
“I am delighted that the Belgian Grand Prix – a must-see event for Wallonia – is confirmed on the F1 calendar for several years. The circuit offers the Region high-quality sporting infrastructures capable of hosting exceptional events and, thanks to the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, Spa-Francorchamps and, through it, Wallonia, are placed at the center of global attention. Beyond this international showcase, the event generates significant economic benefits for Wallonia, but also for Belgium. The extension of this relationship over several years will also allow the circuit teams to plan for the future, which is extremely positive. »
Melchior Wathelet, President of Spa Grand Prix, and Vanessa Maes, CEO of Spa Grand Prix, concluded:
“We are both very proud of this renewal, which reflects the mutual trust built over the years, during which we have modernized our infrastructure and delivered record attendances and a fantastic fan experience. This contract extension was once again made possible thanks to the support of the Walloon government but also of the fans of what we consider to be the most beautiful circuit in the world. Together, we are strengthening our commitment to the development of our magnificent region. »
