Formula 1 team entity Andretti has officially registered a name change ahead of its expected entry in 2026.
This racing organization, previously known as Andretti Racing, was renamed via documents filed with authorities in the United Kingdom.
Andretti renamed Cadillac
The Formula 1 team, originally established under the Andretti name, has now been renamed Cadillac, documents filed with Companies House in the UK confirm.
The name change request, submitted electronically on December 12, was approved on December 13, resulting in the entity being transformed from Andretti Racing Ltd. in Cadillac Formula Racing Ltd.
The company was founded in mid-2022 under the leadership of Michael Andretti, President of Andretti Global, and Dan Towriss, Corporate Director.
Applying to enter Formula 1 when the FIA opened a formal bidding process in late 2023, Andretti's entry passed the FIA's stress tests, becoming the only entry to do so , before being sent to the commercial rights holder, FOM (under Liberty Media), for further evaluation.
However, the entry was soundly rejected by the FOM in early 2024, leading the Andretti team to seek assistance from the United States Department of Justice to investigate the decision-making process.
Andretti's success in attracting General Motors, through its Cadillac brand, proved crucial to the favorable outcome of the case.
The initial rejection letter, however, left the door open for Cadillac's involvement as a manufacturer and engine supplier. At the same time, Michael Andretti resigned as CEO of Andretti Global to hand over the reins entirely to Towriss, which allowed a change of approach to finalize the project with FOM.
Last month, Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei confirmed his intention to step down at the end of 2024, followed shortly after by the announcement that the team, now known as Cadillac, had reached agreement “in principle” with Formula 1 to enter the sport in 2026.
GM will also build its own powertrain for Formula 1, meaning the Cadillac team will become a “full” factory effort by the end of the 2020s.
Last week, Cadillac confirmed that Graeme Lowdon, former boss of the Manor-Marussia F1 team, will take on the role of Team Principal, having been an advisor to the Andretti team for the past two years.
Other documents filed with Companies House this year show the Cadillac team's headquarters being established at an industrial unit near the Silverstone circuit, with a formal change of address taking place in June 2024.
Although Andretti's involvement with the team has waned, Cadillac has confirmed that Mario Andretti, 1978 F1 world champion and father of Michael, will serve on the board of directors.

As an F1 driver, I believe that the arrival of Cadillac in the championship could mark a significant turning point for the discipline. A manufacturer of such stature, combined with a team with a rich history like that of Andretti, could breathe new energy and competitiveness. However, the importance of managing this transition well cannot be underestimated. Expectations are already high, and it will be crucial to demonstrate consistency in performance from the start, in order to carve out a place in this very demanding arena.
