George Russell and Max Verstappen will not spend their next vacation together. The Dutchman, who allegedly threatened the Mercedes driver during the last Qatar Grand Prix, has just received a scathing response from the latter. Atmosphere…
Nothing is going well between George Russell and Max Verstappen, who respond blow for blow through the media, following the declarations of the quadruple Dutch world champion – Verstappen having accused George Russell of having done everything to ensure that he was penalized during qualifying in Qatar. So, the Mercedes driver responded to his rival, facing the camera. Here are the words of Lewis Hamilton's teammate, translated into French (also available in video, below).
“I no longer respect him”
“We all have rules to follow and it (Verstappen, NDLR) did not respect them. I found his remarks very ironic. When he came out, he told me “I'm going to hit you on purpose and I'm going to put your f***ing head into the wall.” This is unacceptable, he has crossed the line and I will not accept it. He doesn't know how to handle adversity when it doesn't go his way. He then attacks others with inappropriate anger, very borderline violence. We have already seen it with Ocon in Brazil or even with Lewis or Lando (…) I have known Max for 12 years and I have always respected him. But I don't respect him anymore because if we all fight on the track it's never personal and we all have rules to respect.”
And, remember, if, next Sunday, at the end of the Abu Dhabi GP, the two “enemies” finished on the podium, they would be like this forced to live together for a few minutes in the most promiscuous waiting room before going to greet the crowd. Or not.
