Formula 1 | Cooling drivers: a solution that works, ready just in case

drivers won't need it this weekend, but the FIA is working on a cooling device that sends cold air around the suit.

A solution precisely decided after the problems encountered in Qatar a little over a year ago, when the 20 drivers all suffered, without exception, from the extreme heat which reigned.

Postponing the date of the Grand Prix by almost two months has improved things and having this device if necessary is a good thing according to them.

"Franco tried it in Brazil, but it was quite cold there," comments Alex Albon, regarding the test carried out by Colapinto on the Williams FW46.

“So… it didn't work. Well, it did, it made him too cold, actually. So he asked to take it off before Free 2. So in that sense, it must work.”

“It's great that the FIA is taking initiatives to try to help us. Obviously, like you said, it might not be that hot this weekend, but it's still going to be physical. And when hot races, in hot climates, especially with all the traveling we do and the toll it takes on our bodies, if there's a solution ready that we can get, then I think we'll definitely take it.”

“Last year it wasn't very comfortable, I think, for the drivers who raced. Shifting the race was a good idea. Developing this system too. These are all good measures.”

Du côté de Guanyu Zhou, “since we haven't tried anything yet in our team, so I wouldn't really give my opinion on that. But I think I'm more than excited, of course, to have this cooling system coming, just to help. I think races like Singapore have been very difficult every year for the drivers, losing a lot of water. It will be good to at least have him there already. And I think it will only help us. .”

Sergio Perez reminds him “There have been a few occasions in my career where things have reached their limits physically.”

“And I think at the speed we're going, you don't want to see someone collapse in the car or something like that.”

“It's a very, very good thing, a very good initiative. I haven't tried it. I haven't seen the system. So I don't know if it works. But yes, I hope we “We can have something effective for these kinds of races like the one we had last year here or in Singapore.”
