This duality serves as a framework for Sennaa thrilling miniseries from Netflix, which focuses for the first time on the personality of the legendary Formula 1 driver. It is perfectly transcribed in the image by the Brazilian actor Gabriel Leone, already noticed in Ferrari (2023), by Michael Mann: sometimes childish and laughing, sometimes stubborn, prey to doubt and self-conscious. “No one takes South Americans seriously”thus launches the hero into Calling. From this first episode, his obsession with racing and winning shines through. His priorities are clear. His private life will always come second.
On the production side, the know-how is undeniable and makes it possible to maintain suspense in each episode, while the outcome of the series is known. With maximum effectiveness during the racing scenes, which include brief, almost subliminal, archive footage. It is therefore difficult not to remain glued during the 1988 Monaco Grand Prix, in Ambition (the second episode). “It was like I was in another dimension”Senna later declared, who won the first of his three world titles that same year.
Duel with Alain Prost
The viewer finds the ingredients behind the success of Formula 1 : Drive to Surviveon Netflix for six seasons: paddock intrigues, intimate relationships exacerbated by danger, rivalries in an opaque environment dominated by money. By this yardstick, the historic Peter Warr (Lotus boss) and Ron Dennis (McLaren) are doing well, as is Sid Watkins, F1 circuit surgeon until 2004.

On the driver side, Niki Lauda (1949-2019), another F1 legend, is an inspiring big brother. But it is obviously the duel with Alain Prost (excellent Matt Mella) that fans are waiting for. It starts from Belonging by stopping the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix, favorable to the French driver, to reach its peak of intensity during the 1990 Brazilian GP, in Sao Paulo − piece of bravery by Heroepisode 5.
