Due to a lack of steering wheel in Formula 1, French hopeful Théo Pourchaire had to give up his dream of racing in the premier category of motorsport.
After shining in Formula 2, Théo Pourchaire begins a new stage in his career by joining Peugeot Sport's WEC (world endurance championship) program. The young driver from the Riviera, titled in F2 in 2023, was officially announced as a development driver for Team Peugeot TotalEnergies.
An opportunity revealed after promising trials
Théo Pourchaire recently demonstrated his skills during the Rookie Tests in Bahrain by taking the wheel of the PEUGEOT 9X8. His performances convinced the Peugeot team, which saw him as an asset to develop their hypercar.
Olivier Jansonnie, technical director of Peugeot Sport, praised its potential: “During the Rookie Test, Theo showed an excellent understanding of the specifics of our car. His single-seater experience brings a valuable perspective to our program.”
Pourchaire will participate in private testing in 2025 and will play a key role in the evolution of the 9X8. This strategic position will allow him to gain valuable experience in endurance while preparing for a possible role as a regular driver if necessary.
A strategic transition towards endurance
Pourchaire sees in this new challenge a unique chance to evolve in a discipline at the cutting edge of technology.
Enthusiastic, he declared: “Joining Peugeot Sport is a magnificent opportunity. Endurance is a new challenge, and the PEUGEOT 9X8 is an impressive car. Endurance cars, with their sophistication, are close to Formula 1.”
This shift towards endurance marks a turning point in Pourchaire's career, as opportunities in Formula 1 seem to be fading away.
Peugeot Sport: a strategy focused on young talents
With the recruitment of Théo Pourchaire, Peugeot Sport is strengthening its commitment to relying on promising drivers. The Team aims to compete with the best teams in the WEC and is counting on the Frenchman to contribute to the technical and strategic development of the 9X8.
This partnership opens up new perspectives for Théo Pourchaire, who, at only 21 years old, is joining a prestigious program. If the future in Formula 1 remains uncertain, this new role at Peugeot could allow him to shine in a demanding and high-level discipline. A promising adventure which marks a new chapter in the career of the French pilot.
