Franco Colapinto insists racing in F1 remains the priority despite his options dwindling to find a driver for next season.
The Argentine driver faces a fight to secure a full-time drive for 2025, with a move to Red Bull or RB F1 the only remaining possibility, if negotiations are successful.
Red Bull is very interested in Colapinto's potential on the track but also in terms of marketing, at a time when Sergio Perez is starting to really tire of his bosses.
“I don’t really know what I’m going to do at the moment, it’s more in the hands of my managers.”
“James [Vowles] is also involved in what I can do. Of course, my goal and target is to stay in Formula 1.”
“If I don't get a seat in F1, I would like to continue racing. I guess they are trying to see at every opportunity what is possible.”
“I really want to keep racing and stay active. I still want to be part of the F1 paddock – I think that's very important.”
“But I love racing, and if not, because there’s no chance for 2025, I hope to be there in 2026 or 2027.”
“I hope to show that I deserve a seat here, but if I can't race in F1, instead of watching TV for 24 races, I would still like to drive elsewhere in the meantime.”
Despite widespread speculation linking him with a move to Red Bull, Colapinto says he is trying to focus on the job at hand.
“I haven't really thought about my future until now. I've tried to focus race by race and session by session and just try to do my best.”
“I'm not really focusing on what I want to accomplish or what my expectations are. I'm just trying to do the basics right, and then we'll see where we are, but so far it's going well.”
