Jack Doohan has confirmed he will race with the number of one of his idols when he contests his debut season in F1 next year.
Doohan chose number 7, the same as 2007 F1 champion Kimi Raikkonen, a driver the Australian described as “a super special person”.
Note that Doohan initially wanted to have the number 12 but Kimi Antonelli, the debutant at Mercedes F1, made his request to the FIA before the Australian.
Doohan, who also raced with this number five years ago while with Double R Racing in the Euroformula Open Championship, will drive for Alpine F1 in 2025 after being promoted to replace Esteban Ocon.
In an Alpine post on X, with Doohan in a Las Vegas casino, describing himself as “super excited”he added: “I really wanted to use a number that I had raced with before, something that made sense to me.”
“I raced with number seven in 2019, and also one of my idols, a super special person and driver, Kimi Raikkonen, also drove with this number.”
“I’m really looking forward to getting started in F1 and making it my own, and having a bit of luck with the number seven.”
