After a difficult FP1, Yuki Tsunoda reassured himself by finishing the first day of the Las Vegas Grand Prix in tenth position. The RB F1 driver explains that he thinks he can aim for Q3, and that the race relays were just as strong this Friday.
“Overall, the first day in Las Vegas was positive. We struggled a bit in the first free practice session, but we managed to turn things around later in the second practice session. free trials” Tsunoda noted.
“It's a positive sign, because it's usually not easy to do, and I think we've found the direction to go for the rest of the weekend. We still need to fine-tune the settings for tomorrow to find some tenths to try to enter Q3.”
“The long runs also look positive, although I think a lot depends on how we are able to manage the tires, given the tricky and unusual conditions we have here, but it will be important to find the right balance in terms of car settings between short and long runs.”
Liam Lawson was 15th at the end of the second free practice session, and he explains the difficulties he encountered earlier in the day, when he said on the radio that he felt like the track was wet, it lacked so much grip.
“A tough day today, honestly. We started the day very slow, then progressed and learned a lot. It's obviously very cold and the track was very slippery and dirty, so you just wait for it to settle in place” Lawson said.
“In FP2 the track was colder but better, and we learned things that will help us tomorrow. We learned today to improve, so we hope to be able to fight at the back of the top 10, but that will depend on how others behave.”
