After a double podium in Brazil at the end of October, the Alpine team is fully pumped up for the end of the 2024 Formula 1 championship. At least that is the message displayed by its two drivers a few days before the first free practice sessions. Notably Pierre Gasly.
2nd and 3rd during the Brazilian Grand Prix, the Alpine team gave itself some breathing room for the end of the season. The French team's objective is to finish in 6th place in the ranking. To do this, it will be necessary to transform the good results obtained in October during the Grand Prix of the United States, Mexico and Brazil. Whether in qualifying or in the race.
Before this Las Vegas Grand Prix, Alpine is 6th in the standings with 49 points. An unexpected total at the start of the season. Which allows the team to overtake Haas by 3 small points. A team that is nevertheless much more regular in its results in 2024 than Alpine. The stated objective of Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon is to maintain this place in the manufacturers ranking. As the winner of the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix explains:
“The goal will be to extend the dynamic of São Paulo and maximize the weekend for maintain our sixth position in the championship”.
Pierre Gasly confirms:
“The fight remains intense for sixth place in the championship and we want to maintain our positionso we'll have to make sure we execute everything to perfection. We showed that we were capable of qualifying well and fighting for points. This will be our focus in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. It will be a challenge, but the team has been exceptional and I really think we can do it”.
Repeat last year's performances
In 2023, which was also a complicated season for the French team, Esteban Ocon managed to finish 4th in the race. Pierre Gasly failed to reach the points by finishing 11th. Making progress this fall, Alpine can legitimately aim for points at the end of the weekend before continuing with the Qatar Grand Prix and that of Abu Dhabi.
