Formula 1 | Montoya advises Red Bull to take Sainz back from Williams

Juan Pablo Montoya believes Red Bull should try at all costs to bring Carlos Sainz back into the fold. While rumors have reported of Red Bull's interest in Franco Colapinto, the former driver is convinced that Christian Horner should try to repatriate Sainz, signed to Williams in 2025.

“If I were Christian and the director of Red Bull, I would go to Williams and say 'you are happy with Colapinto, keep him and give me Sainz'. Why take the risk of replacing Checo, who has the experience in Formula 1, who has won races, to put a beginner against Max? Montoya asks.

“A debutant against Albon, it's difficult, but you can do it. And look at Albon, every time he's been under pressure and had a fast teammate, he's had an accident and continues to do so. Max doesn’t make mistakes or fail, so it’s complicated.”

The Colombian is convinced that Sainz will have an annual exit and thinks that Williams must take advantage of it: “Knowing Carlos, I think he told Williams that he signed for them, but if he doesn't win or doesn't make podiums, if someone makes him an offer, he can leave every year. “

“Red Bull could then say to Williams 'you can lose Carlos now or in a year, now you get money and next year you don't'. If it was like that, that's it. what I would do for Red Bull, I wouldn't choose Colapinto, I would choose Carlos.”

Montoya is convinced that Pérez will stay on the grid next year, motivated by his salary and, according to him, because he deserves it: “I think Checo will still be on the grid next year. I don't think he will give up. The difference with Ricciardo is that Checo makes a lot of money.”

“He gets a lot of criticism and a lot of people want him gone. I don't know if he deserves it. He hasn't done bad. You don't know what goes on behind closed doors, but a lot of people trying to put another driver in the car.”
