Formula 1 | Leclerc shares his hopes and fears ahead of the big finale for Ferrari

36 points: this is what separates, after the Brazilian Grand Prix, Ferrari from McLaren in the constructors' standings.

Everything therefore remains open for the world title, even if at Interlagos, McLaren F1 regained a little lead.

Ferrari must aim to beat McLaren F1, but it won't be easy. Particularly because certain routes (especially that of Qatar and perhaps Yas Marina) should be more suitable for the orange car.

But even for Las Vegas, the next GP, there is not much optimism in Maranello.

“For Las Vegas, I have mixed feelings” confirms Charles Leclerc.

“We were very strong last year. I think our car matches the characteristics of our circuit well. »

The Ferrari driver is nevertheless wary of the temperatures, which are expected to be very cold again, in Las Vegas. Getting the Pirellis up to speed will be a crucial challenge, especially in qualifying.

If Ferrari's superior traction should be a clear advantage for the Scuderia in Las Vegas, Interlagos may also be worrying about the heating of the tires: because in the rain and therefore with lower temperatures, the Ferrari had difficulty in make tires work in Brazil. Leclerc is well aware of this…

“In terms of the tires, it might be a little more difficult for us to get them to the right temperature. But let's just say I'm more optimistic than pessimistic and I still believe we can do really well in Las Vegas. »

“So Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi are the two races where I think we can do well. »

“We took a big step forward in tire management, but we didn't do everything well in cold conditions like we saw at Interlagos. Las Vegas is a bit reminiscent of this scenario too. »

“So hopefully we can work during these two weeks to prepare properly and be at a good level in Las Vegas. »

Ferrari behind in Qatar?

It is especially towards Qatar that the Monegasque's fears are concentrated… Bad news, there will also be a sprint this weekend and therefore more points to distribute.

“Unfortunately, I think Qatar will be a little more difficult, and it will be more about damage control. »

“But there are still three races left, and I hope we can make the most of them and then beat McLaren. »

“We will be in the game until the very end. We have three weekends coming up which are going to be important for the whole team and now we have to refocus, regroup and see how to approach these last three races in the best possible way. »
