It's starting to look more and more scorched for Sergio Pérez ahead of the 2025 season of the Formula 1 world championship.
Former Formula 1 team boss Eddie Jordan is categorical: according to him, Sergio Pérez will no longer be behind the wheel of Red Bull in 2025. The Mexican is going through a particularly difficult season, marked by performances below expectations. his team and by an unfavorable comparison with his teammate, Max Verstappen.
Since the start of the year, Pérez has indeed struggled to find his rhythm. Although he drives a Red Bull, one of the most competitive cars on the field, he has been suffering from poor performances and currently finds himself in eighth position in the drivers' standings.
Conversely, Max Verstappen, his teammate, largely dominates the championship and is on the verge of winning a fourth consecutive world title. The gap between the two drivers is colossal: 242 points separate them in the standings, a gulf which only increases the pressure on Pérez.
Departure rumors and fear for Red Bull
Faced with this situation, speculation is rife regarding Pérez's future. Some even mention a possible early retirement. Pérez's poor performance risks costing Red Bull dearly, which could finish third in the constructors' championship, which would be its worst result since 2029. The management of the Austrian team has already expressed its concerns, which does not doesn't help Pérez's position within the team.
During an interview, Eddie Jordan was very clear:
“Pérez, he's had so many chances… Do you really think he'll have a wheel next year? No chance. Not a chance.”
Jordan underlines that, despite Pérez's human qualities, this is not enough to keep a regular driver's seat in F1, especially at Red Bull: “He's a charming, charming, charming man. But we know that the good guys don't win the Grands Prix.”
Liam Lawson, l’option favorable ?
Since Daniel Ricciardo was temporarily replaced at Red Bull by Liam Lawson, the pressure has further intensified for Pérez. Red Bull is currently studying the performance of Lawson, who is already part of the team's family.
According to Jordan, Lawson would be the natural choice to replace Pérez: “He’s the person who should be in this car.”
With this assessment, Sergio Pérez's future at Red Bull appears in jeopardy, leading to speculation that the 2024 season could well be his last with the team.
