Formula 1 | Mercedes denies Hamilton early departure after cryptic radio message

Mercedes has dismissed possible theories that F1's Sao Paulo Grand Prix was Lewis Hamilton's final race for the team following his cryptic radio message on Sunday.

The seven-time F1 world champion endured another miserable weekend, finishing a lowly 10th place in Sao Paulo.

Hamilton struggled to manage his W15 as he was once again taken aback by its lack of pace over one lap.

Surprisingly, Hamilton also struggled in the rain – conditions in which he has excelled over the years.

After crossing the line in 10th position, Hamilton delivered a special message over the team radio.

“It was a disastrous weekend, guys. Worst car ever. Thanks for helping try and well done for the good work to all the guys in the pits.”

“If this was the last time I got to perform, it’s a shame it wasn’t great but I’m grateful.”

Hamilton's words “if this was the last time” led to speculation on Tuesday that Brazil would be his last race for the team.

After the race, Hamilton joked that he was looking forward to vacation and Christmas (read here).

However, Mercedes F1 has been keen to quell such speculation and a spokesperson has confirmed to us that Hamilton will definitely be in the car for the final three races in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Hamilton will leave Mercedes F1 after the race at the Yas Marina circuit before joining Ferrari in 2025.

The 39-year-old driver will not make his track debut with Ferrari during post-season testing due to numerous commitments at Mercedes.

Its first run should take place at Fiorano in January, with a 2022 or 2023 F1, as permitted by the regulations.
