Pecco Bagnaia managed to take his rival Jorge Martin to the final event of the season, in Barcelona, to decide the award of the 2024 drivers' world title, by winning the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday on the track from Sepang.
The Italian rider from the official Ducati team won in front of his direct opponent from pole position, after spending the entire first half of the race waging an intense wheel-to-wheel battle against him. The second half of the Grand Prix allowed Bagnaia to set a competitive race pace and manage a lead that grew to two seconds in the lead.
The title will be decided in Barcelona, where Martin still arrives in a strong position, with a lead of 24 points and with 37 units still in play.
For third place overall, the fall of Marc Marquez affected Enea Bastianini, third at the finish. The Italian returns to one point from the coveted championship position before the last event on the Catalan track not very popular with the Gresini rider who will take his factory handlebars next season.
