Christian Horner shocked by Norris’ pace in Singapore

Red Bull boss Christian Horner admitted to being surprised by the pace of Lando Norris’ McLaren in Singapore where the Briton crossed the line as winner just over 20 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen .

Asked how Lando Norris dominated the Singapore Grand Prix at Marina Bay, Christian Horner said after the race: “Yeah, it was crazy!” I shouldn’t say this in an official capacity, but the pace he had in his hands with those tires…”

“We lost the race on pace because he hit the wall first time, then a second time, but he got through it. I think Max had a very good race and we had a very good race [en tant qu’équipe]. »

“Looking at where we were a few weeks ago, I think we’ve made real progress, although we obviously still have a lot of work to do before Austin [la prochaine course du calendrier fin octobre]. »

” They [McLaren] had a very strong car this weekend, especially in the first stint, they were very fast. With the Hard tires we seemed in better shape, but of course the gap was way too big at that point on a track where overtaking is difficult. »

With the next race of the season scheduled three weeks after the Singapore Grand Prix, the teams will take advantage of this break to prepare a final update to introduce to their car, and when Horner is asked if Red Bull will also bring a upgrade on his RB20 in Austin at the end of October, the Briton replied: “This has not been finalized yet. »

“A lot of information has emerged from these events [les courses déjà disputées] that will influence what happens to the car in Austin. » added Horner.

“We have a lot of information on the last two races, but they are very, very different tracks from Austin, Mexico or Brazil. So it will be interesting. »

After the Singapore Grand Prix, the Red Bull team occupies second place in the constructors’ world championship with 41 points behind McLaren, while there are still six Grands Prix to contest this season including three Sprint races.
