Rugby players charged with rape can leave Argentina

JUSTICE – The two players will be able to return to France after the decision of a detention and liberties judge

Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou are now free to return to France. Indicted for rape for nearly two months in Argentina, the two 21-year-old players from the French XV have in fact been authorized to return to France “immediately”, according to a press release from the courts on Tuesday.

At a hearing in Mendoza, the prosecution did not object to the prosecutor’s recommendation Monday to allow their departure, the court said in a statement. “This resolution therefore remains valid, and they will be able to leave the country from now on,” the statement added.

In charge of this sensational case, the Mendoza prosecutor’s office announced on Monday that it would “authorize the concrete and effective exit from the country, so that they can travel to France.” A measure then suspended pending the decision of a detention and liberties judge during the hearing set for this Tuesday.

A green light “with rules”

The green light given by the Mendoza prosecutor’s office for the players’ departure is “accompanied by rules,” said Martin Ahumada, spokesman for the Mendoza provincial justice system. “If they are summoned, for example, they must report to the Argentine consulate in France. They must provide a real and virtual address and they must report to Mendoza if requested.” (…) - 20minutes
