Valérie Pécresse ready to keep the Agitos at the headquarters of the Île-de-France region

She also wants to keep a symbol. The president of the Île-de-France region, Valérie Pécresse, is “ready” to keep the Agitos, the Paralympic Games logo, on the regional council headquarters, she assured on X Monday, September 2.

“Ready for the Agitos to remain on the facade of the headquarters of the Île-de-France region in Saint-Ouen, a stone’s throw from the athletes’ village, as a signal that obliges us in the years to come to build an inclusive and accessible region!”, declared Valérie Pécresse.

Celebrating a “spectacular” Paralympics

The red, blue and green crescents are currently installed on the façade of the Arc de Triomphe, facing the Champs-Élysées. International Paralympic Committee spokesman Craig Spence said at a press briefing on Monday that he wanted the symbol to remain in the city.

“I would really like us to have a place where the Agitos can stay here in the city to celebrate what I think is, by far, the most spectacular Paralympic Games in our history,” he said.

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, announced on Saturday, in an interview with West Francethat the Olympic rings installed as part of the Olympic Games on the Eiffel Tower will remain on the monument.

The mayor justifies his decision by the fact that “it is a very beautiful idea to combine the Eiffel Tower, a monument designed to be ephemeral for a universal exhibition, with the Games, an ephemeral moment that will also have marked Paris and our country”. But this idea divides tourists as well as Parisians and some descendants of Gustave Eiffel.
