The position taken by Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) against carbon monoxide, expressed recently in The Worldcontinues to provoke reactions. During an interview with Eurosport, Marc Madiotgeneral manager of the team Groupama-FDJwelcomed this statement from the Danish runner. According to him, this initiative could mark a decisive turning point in Cycling. Madiot expressed confidence about the upcoming ban on the use of carbon monoxide in the sport, a measure he attributes to the commitment of theUCI and its president, David Lappartient : “CIt's rare for a great runner of his level to take a stand and speak out, especially in this area. And the fact that he expressed himself, I find that good. Whether he used it or not is not the issue. What matters is that people don't use it anymore or don't use it. I appreciated his speech.”

“Lappartient will put it in the regulations to ban it”
“It's very good, I would like to congratulate him because it's rare for a great runner of his level to take his word and take a stand, especially in this area.said Madiot. And the fact that he expressed himself, I find that good. Whether he used it or not is not the issue. What matters is that people don't use it anymore or don't use it. I appreciated his speech.“
“It must be banned, I have been saying it for several months…”
“We must ban it, I have been saying it for several months. I sent a message to David Lappartient who had read it at the WorldTour general assembly. Let's be intelligent: if we all say it together, we stop it this thing is everything, period”he continues. “ Lappartient will put it in the regulations to prohibit it. He will put it in the regulations: it is forbidden to use it. There is a UCI general assembly in Liévin, we will talk about it. I'm sorry but we don't make cyclists breathe gas, that's nonsense. No and no, that's it. Imagine letting this kind of thing happen. The public sees the guys on TV and in the evening they know that they will breathe carbon monoxide, it's a lethal gas! What message are we sending? This is why I tell you that it was Vingegaard what he did. I prefer Vingegaard's speaking out to the silence of others.”
