The Dutch Cycling Federation will not continue to follow its Hopes, from this year 2025. In a press release, it announces that “Talent development will be exclusively focused on the Junior category in 2025. Driven by budgetary factors and strict investment requirements, we carefully weighed all factors to make our choice. How the U23 cycling landscape, in particular men's, is organized with the development teams linked to the WorldTour teams is an important factor in decision-making”writes the Federation.
Therefore, no Dutch Espoir team will be fielded in any event until further notice. Namely, the World Championship in Rwanda, the European Championship in France, the Tour de l'Avenir and other Nations Cup rounds. The national coach of the Espoirs, Tom Veelers, has thus terminated his contract.
But that's not all, like Denmark (read here) and Belgium who will go with a reduced selection, the Netherlands will not send any up-and-coming rider to the Rwandan World Cup. No Juniors, no Hopes, for women or men, but only Elites. “Right now, we simply do not have the resources to complete the preparation process with the quality that we represent”.
