After months of controversy and delay, the first school program dedicated to education in emotional life, relationships and sexuality – known as “Evars” – is reaching one of the last stages of its development: its examination before the higher education council (CSE) is scheduled for January 29.

Thursday January 23 on Inter, the Minister of National Education, Elisabeth Borne, defended this text “absolutely essential” in a context where, she recalls, “a child is the victim of sexual assault every three minutes”Or “two million minors are exposed to pornographic content on the Internet” and where “sexism is increasing”. The program aims to “attentive” has “provide the right information depending on the age of the student”says the former prime minister.

Tensions have, for now, gone down a notch compared to November 2024. At the heart of the controversy at the time, carried by associations of the far right and the Catholic right, was the balance between the role of the school and that of the family in education about sexual life; the age of introduction of concepts such as puberty; and especially the place of the expression “gender identity” in the programs.
