Lamine Yamal scores twice in Girona derby as Barça continue flawless run in La Liga

How far will this devil Lamine Yamal go? Where his extraordinary talent will take him, without a doubt very far, most certainly to the firmament of football, and it is a safe bet that this first double of the season will not be the last for the revelation of the last Euro. It could be the fastest, however, because it was scored in less than ten minutes by the Spanish prodigy, this Sunday against Girona (4-1), Paris Saint-Germain’s next opponent, in the Champions League.

And if this encounter is to prefigure what awaits Luis Enrique’s players on Wednesday, the Asturian coach can sleep soundly, Girona does not present the attractions of a team sufficiently armed to pull off a coup in Paris. Faced with Paris’ counter-pressing, Girona will not be able to restart from its surface in the same way as David Lopez did against Lamine Yamal without taking the risk of suffering a correction at the Parc des Princes.

Received 5 out of 5

The Barcelona striker got hold of the ball too easily, which he then placed under the bar with a left-footed shot (30th minute). This extraordinary left foot has not finished delighting us. After all, Lamine Yamal is only 17 years old. And already a star who is destined to become a reference, surgical in front of goal. He gave us another taste of what his talent has in store for us by punishing the opponent’s clumsiness five minutes later.

Behind a free kick poorly handled by the Girona defence, Yamal saw a small space open up in front of him in the middle of a crowd of players, big enough however to place his shot and deceive a goalkeeper completely masked at the start of the ball (37th).

Yamal cemented his team’s dominance in record time before half-time, and Barça soon stunned their Catalan neighbours after the break, thanks to Dani Olmo’s third goal of the season (47th minute). Impressive when you consider that the attacking midfielder has only played three league games with his new club (editor’s note: he was not eligible for the first two).

Pedri consolidated shortly after the hour mark (64th) this fifth success of the season in as many games, something that had not happened to Barça since the 2017-2018 season. Carried by leaders in tune, it is a Barça full of confidence that will go to challenge Monaco this week (Thursday at 9 p.m.), for a rematch of the pre-season friendly match which saw the club from the Principality thrash the Catalan club (3-0).
