Léo Legentil and Alexis Lavolé showed their new colors of VC Avranches on the Loudéac track last week, during the French Track Championship. The first, just out of the Junior ranks, had already cut the claws of a young leopard on the woods of the Breton track, two months ago at the French Future Championship, under the jersey of the Normandy committee.
NO FREE ENTRIES FOR THE FINAL
From the first evening, the two riders showed their worth in qualifying for the final of the points race where the last eight fell by the wayside. There were therefore no free entries for the final. In his series, Léo Legentil managed to take a turn in the company of a group which included Benjamin Thomas, the future French Champion. “I am very surprised and very happy. I was there for the experience, my goal was to make it to the final“. Objective therefore succeeded. Yet the level was raised. “I had never raced against an Olympic Champion, it’s strange, I have the impression that we don’t ride the same bike but the proof that yes“, appreciates the one who finished 14th in the final.
For his part, Alexis Lavolé, the Morbihan resident of the Norman club, saw the ax fall in front of his nose to bar him from the final. But the member of VC Avranches made the race. He attempted to take a lap on his own to secure a qualifying spot. “I was involved in the race, the form is really there. I do around thirty laps alone, it’s a quarter of a velodrome to get in and pass“, he says. Proof of his condition, he did not jump off his wheels when he was seen again. “I was in management. Riding at 60 to get into the peloton is not easy. Especially since it was the strongest series (won by Bryan Coquard ahead of Mathieu Dupé and Jean-Louis Le Ny, Editor’s note). I managed to recover“.
-PREPARING ON THE ROAD
If the two riders managed to withstand the efforts it is because they are also in full road preparation. “I cut it after the French Future Championship, indicates Léo Legentil. I resumed my classic winter preparation without making this Championship a goal“. Alexis Lavolé jumped at the opportunity to see the Championship organized not far from home to participate. “I prepared it on the road, the two are complementary“, he judges.
It is therefore a duo of drivers from the N3 club who came to compete in the French Track Championship but “who loves the track“, as Alexis Lavolé says. The Legentil-Lavolé duo came to race the Christmas Open in Loudéac in mid-December. The youngest comes from UV Neubourg, a training club for track riders with two French Champions among the Cadets last November and winner of the Team Piste Formation ranking in 2024. For his part, Alexis Lavolé regrets the problems of “logistics“which slows him down in track activity.”These are our personal bikes but the committee provided us with wheels. Achieving results makes you want to race, but when you have a road bike, a chrono bike and a track bike, that’s a lot.“. The former member of the UCK Vannes Bretagne Sud Cyclisme even finds that he “missing a track team in Brittany“. The French Track Championship finished, Alexis Lavolé will continue his preparation for the road season with an internship in Spain but with the certainty, thanks to the track, that the work done so far is already bearing fruit.
