Without being able to find a new professional contract, Alexis Gougeard will no longer be in the pelotons in 2025. “I’m going to turn to something else. Cycling, for me, is over. By force of circumstances”he announced to Courrier Cauchois.
The Norman had crossed the Rubicon in 2014 at AG2R La Mondiale, after having studied at USSA Pavilly Barentin. In the young categories, by distinguishing themselves against the clock and in the online events (see its DirectVelo file), he very quickly found himself among the pillars of the French team.
He ended his professional career with thirteen victories, including eight obtained during his first two seasons. In his first year, he took part in the Classic Loire-Atlantique and the Boucles de l'Aulne. He reached a new milestone the following year by offering himself a new Classic Loire-Atlantique, a stage of the 4 Days of Dunkirk, the prologue and the general of the Eurométropole Tour, and above all a stage of the Vuelta at the end of an escape, which will be his trademark throughout his career. He then completes his record with the Polynormande 2017, then the Boucles de l'Aulne, again, and a stage and the general of the Circuit de la Sarthe.
After two more complicated years at AG2R La Mondiale, in 2022 he joined the B&B Hotels p/b KTM team where he will again multiply the escapes. But in December, like all his teammates, he learned of the premature end of Jérôme Pineau's team. Forced to return to the amateur box, at VC Rouen 76, he quickly showed his desire not to get old bones at this level. He will conclude the year 2023 with seven individual successes, 23 Top 10s, memorable escapes like the one in Cassel during the French Championship and above all a professional contract with Cofidis. A 7th place overall in the Tour de la Provence and a few escapes like in the Tour du Limousin did not allow him to continue the adventure among the professionals.
