Phryge, Léon Marchand and Thomas Jolly, the parade of champions had the best of the Games

PARIS 2024 JO – The Élysée wanted to make it “an exceptional moment of communion”. The parade of champions was in any case a good summary of the best that the Games had to offer in Paris this summer. The French athletes were also presented with awards in the evening during a grand ceremony on an XXL stage set up on the Place de l’Étoile. With 16 titles and 64 medals, France had the best Olympic Games in its history on home soil.

2024 Olympic Parade: Legion of Honor, Order of Merit… What will the medal-winning athletes receive?

From the early afternoon, amidst a major security presence, the 70,000 spectators who had obtained their sesame gathered at the top of the Parisian avenue, ready to pay tribute to the heroes of the summer, such as the swimmer Léon Marchand, four times gold medalist. Among the spectators, one a little more famous than the others, Thomas Jolly, the director of the four opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.

“I’m just here as a guest to celebrate with the Paris 2024 teams, the athletes, the volunteers, everyone who made these Games a success”he explained. As you can see in the video at the top of the articlemore than 300 Olympians and Paralympians paraded this Saturday, among them the triathlete Cassandre Beaugrand, the French rugby 7s team led by Antoine Dupont, Aurélie Aubert, gold medalist in boccia or the 17-year-old table tennis player Félix Lebrun.

A parade under the sun this time

In the middle of the afternoon, the parade began in the sunshine with a blue, white and red fireworks display around the Arc de Triomphe. And it also had the feel of an Olympic opening ceremony, with the return of the masked man and the horseman, whom the public had discovered during the show along the Seine on July 26. The horseman also gave the three blows of the baton, a theatrical tradition, to launch the parade, as has been the case at the start of each competition.

The stars of these Games were of course present, because in addition to the champions, the Phryges were also on the Champs and performed their best choreography. Phryge in sequins, Phryge dressed as a volunteer or Phryge as a cabaret dancer entertained the spectators by presenting their own fashion week. In just a few weeks, the mascot of the Games has won the hearts of the French, in the stadiums and on social networks.

After the presentation of the decorations, a giant concert will take place this Saturday evening at Place de l’Étoile, with some of the artists who have marked the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, such as Marc Cerrone, the singers Chris (Christine and the Queens) and Lucky Love, the duo Amadou and Mariam, and the mezzo-soprano Axelle Saint-Cirel, who sang the Marseillaise during the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
