The Parade of Olympic Athletes, a Final Celebration of the Paris Games

LThe Olympic Games parade is expected to bring together 70,000 spectators and nearly 300 athletes starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, reports BFM. In total, nearly 10,000 people, Olympic Games artisans as well as volunteers, members of the organizing committee, and public officials, will parade with the athletes.

For this last celebration of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Thierry Reboul, creative director of Paris 2024, promises another grandiose spectacle. The Champions Parade on the Champs-Élysées and the Place de l’Étoile will turn the page on the sporting event with music, until midnight.

To honor the achievements of French athletes, medalists will receive the Legion of Honor or the National Order of Merit. Among the 187 athletes who will be decorated, 120 of them will be present on the Place de l’Étoile, at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe.

A hyper-secure parade

The outgoing Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin promised increased security for this event. He sent 4,000 police officers and gendarmes to supervise the parade. Thierry Reboul specifies that “a maximum capacity of 40,000 people has been set for the area surrounding the Place de l’Étoile, while it will be 30,000 spectators on the Champs-Élysées.”
